10:31 am - One Week 2 Days til Madonna... Dance and Sing
Here are my last two times to see her, I thought all three would be on LJ but I didn't start until after the ReInvention Tour![]()
The next morning Emma and i headed out to Starbucks and after some problems with the gate at the Villa we ended up taking Rachel and Tim too. We came back and had some fun by the pool. I went with the girls into PS to do some dress shopping LOL!!!! As the time neared 3 we got ready to head further into the Desert and Coachella Music festival. There was no traffic on the 10, which was cool. Off the 10 was a different story. it took 2 hours to travel from the 10 to the gates of the festival and the Sahara Dance Tent. The tent was huge. A bigger stage than the main stage and 4 rather large screens set up on the side of the stage and outside of the tent. I can't imagine why in the dance tent they would need monitors like that? :-)
One rather hot dj was spinning as we worked our way up to through the crowd. I guess the montiors were working to let us know he was hot. We found a spot for the 6 of us. Jeff and Dan backed out of going. However Rachel wanted to get closer so the girls kept on making their way to the front. The first dj stopped and they set up for Paul Oakenfield. I think at this time it was safe to say there were close to 10,000 in the tent. Not much room to dance or anything. People kept pushing a head or trying to get through. As Paul's set wore on people were less and less inclincded to let people through. Just as Paul ended these 3 girls probably not much older than 18 forced their way in front of us, but first they had some words with the guy standing next to them. He was not thrilled to see them. Soon after some Asian chick pushed her way up from behind me with her boyfriend. They stood there for a second and than asked if i'd help her get on his shoulders so she could see. i said no because they'd be in my way, and she said they wouldn't stand in front of me. Once again i said no, because than they would be infront of my friends and hundreds of other people. The 3 girls from before however decided they'd help her up. At which point Tim, Rich and myself asked them to get down. When they didn't everyone behind them started chanting Get Down! I then called the girl a fucking cunt.
One of the 3 girls thought i called her friend a cunt and spun around and got all in my face and was like what did you say. I looked down at her, cause she was short and said you heard me. she stopped for a second turned to her friends turned back at me and all she could come up with was You fucking Fag. My reply was along the lines of yes i suck better cock than you and probably every guy you see here does too. the asian chick was still refusing to get down. i told her get down and watch the monitors that's what there were for. she said no. Tim and Rich started pusing the boyfriend. people started throwing water bottles at her. Tim was like Bitch i'm going to light you on fire if you don't get your ass down. The other girls kept calling me a fag, and i was like does your mother know you are here on a school night? than tim asked one if she spent her boob job money on tickets. the girls just kept calling us fags. Why is that straight people always refer to calling us what we are? Finally Rich was like bitch if you don't get down i'm going pull you down by your fucking hair. She got down. than they appoliogized and went on their way outside to one of the monitors. the three girls however kept trying to show how cool they were. i went on ignore mood.
After about 20mins of waiting for her to go on Tick Tick Tick And we were off. i could tell from the set-up she was going to do the same gig from KoKo and the G-A-Y performance. I just didn't know what color of leotard she'd wear. She came out in purple. A few minor changes. She played guitar on I Love New York. At first i was scared because in the past her guitar playing was a little shaky. Last night it was much better. The Line in the song "If you don't like my attitude you can just F off, just go to Texas isn't that where they golf." was changed to "If you don't like my attitude you can Fuck off, just go to texas and suck George Bush's Cock." She added Ray of Light to the set. Which was great. and than the Performance of Let It Will Be was alot better than at KoKo. Finally she ended with the one song i was dying to hear. Everybody!!!! Dance and Sing get up and do your thing!!!! They ended up taking down the walls of the tent and expanding the standing room into the next two tents to accommadate the crowd. They sold 100,000 tickets for yesterday and about a good half were all eyes on Madonna. great show and we were only 100 ft if that far away from her.
After the show we left. we didn't wanna risk fighting crowds later in the night to get out. SInce Tool hadn't performed yet. It only took half an hour to get back to the villa. Rachel and i drove home last night.
There are many reasons she is the most successful female of the rock era. One of which is the fact she puts together a show like no one else ever could.
Madonna was lowered below the stage and the big screen came back down on the mainstage. Then it let up like the light of a confessional with little crosses everywhere. The music to Live to Tell started and we could hear Madonna's voice say I have a tale to tell... and than one of the dancers voices started talking about growing up an abusive home. He was doing dance on the side trapazee and there was a video of an abused child. The second dancer came out and started talking about the abuse she had at the hands of her strict Relgious father, who was Muslim. There videos of women in burkas and she was dancing wildly on the catwalk next to me. The third dancer than came out at the end of the main catwalk and he started talking about his early life in the ghetto and joining a gang, and images of drive bys were on the screens. The whole Forum was silent. Than the cross was raised from the floor of the stage with Madonna and the starting of Live To Tell. THe cool thing about the big screen was if nothing was playing you could see through it so the screen was being raised as numbers started to count. At the second verse it had gotten up to 25million. Than images of AIDS Striken Africa and statisitics started to appear on the screens. It was amazing to see Madonna after going 13 years without saying anythinga bout AIDS in concert to showing it's affects today. As the song ended Matthew 23:38-40 flashed on the screen 38 And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, even these least, ye did it unto me.
Then Forbidden Love started. The dancers were men holding hands and doing differnt thing with their hands together. Very much a statement on gay rights. Madonna at one point went over and joined one of the two sets and they all were doing the motions together. The screens were images of cells forming religious symbols that started as one cell and at the end all the religious symbols went back into one. The song that followed was Issac. With Yaztik aka Issac joining her on stage to sing his part of the song in Hebrew. It sounded amazing and a girl was in a cage in burka dancing while he was singing and than Madonna rose up from under the catwalk and sang and danced. As Madonna got closer to the mainstage and the cage the cage opened and the girl came out and dancer wildly in her burka tell Madonna touched her and she took it off. Than did some more bellydancing before being lowered in the stage. Madonna walked to the end of the cage and sang some more and the male dancers came out and they all did a great number. the screens were a hawk flying through the desert. Than came Sorry as fight between the boys and the girls. Who won? The girls. I don't remember what was on the screens. Than Madonna struted down the main catwalk passed by me and hit the end and did Like it or Not and just danced with a chair. Than she walked back to the mainstage and was lowered beneath it. A remix of Sorry started, sceens of poaching, war, Bush, Blair, Chenny, Rice, Rumsfield, Hitler, Osama, Pope Benedict XVI, Bush I, Saddam, Nixon, and few other world leaders were shown. THe remix was hot. The video was very pointed.
The thrid section kicked off with Madonna saying don't take this song personally and went into a rocked out version of I Love New York like she did at coachella. This time she said If you don't like my attitude you can f-off just go to texas and suck george bush's dick. The video was the skyline of NY and was followed by the rocked out version of Ray of LIght with the stars and galaxies and Madonna yelling at us to jump. Her guitar playing is much much better than before. Let It Will Be was next. great engery. Same as Coachella. The screens were just the video of her dancing on stage. She slowed things down with an accoustic version of Drowned World which was beautiful and Issac came back and sang with her. Next came an accoustic version of Paradise Not For Me. Which at first I didn't like because the song has no meledy. But after Issac started to sing it in Hebrew i let it go and enjoyed the beauty of the song. This section was the section most people were like what's going on. It really seperated the casual fan from the hardcore.
After Paradise alot of people were sitting down, and the place was dark. than a video montage of all her videos started and people started cheering and than the music for Disco Inferno started. The dancers came out in roller skates for a great number and than Madonna did a meshup of Music and Disco inferno. HOT!!!!!! HOT!!! HOT!!!! the place was off the hook. Madonna in a white polyester suit Followed up by a strip tease and a disco version of Erotica... she used the lyrics from the unreleased version. The levels were off for this song though. I could hardly here here. Donna and Nicki were much louder than her. and the dancer was a tango. This was followed by a disco version of La Isla Bonita... my least favorite of the night. NOrmally a really pretty song, but it just seemed like it lost something in this mix. Madonna was wearing a Abba inspired body suit and out came a cape that had lights on the inside and Dancing QUeen on the outside. She did Lucky Star with Donna and Nicki, not the old Niki but a new one, and it was a fun little ditty was mixed straight away into Hung Up. She was lowered beneath the stage as the songs were changing and came back out in a purple leotard. It was great way to end the show. And the screens saying Have You Confessed?
I still can't believe i was 4 feet away from here at points and no more than 15feet away at any one time.
I have this point of view.
Set One Equstrian was Madonna confessioning her points of view of power over her life and sexuality
Set Two MIddle Eastern Madonna confessioning what she things is wrong in this world
Set Three Glam Rock Madonna confessing her thoughts on fame.
Set Four Disco Inferno Madonna confessing her love of dance.
